Learn, Share, Profit.
Share what you learn to build lasting, profitable relationships.

One of my vendors wishes me a happy wedding anniversary each year. Although I don't remember talking to him about my wedding, he clearly took note. Each year, like clockwork, he sends me well wishes. Each year I'm impressed that he remembered.

Few people have the discipline or energy to send birthday or anniversary wishes to their clients. I'll admit, I don't do it either - although I probably should. If you haven't been keeping track of your clients' anniversaries throughout the years, there is another way to show that you are interested in their happiness and success. That is by sharing what you learn.

Share What You Learn
If you're like most professionals, you read trade magazines, business books, and newspapers. You watch television, read blogs, or listen to pod casts. You're always learning something new. And, it's likely that someone you know would also be interested in learning something new. So, why not share what you've just learned with them?

Keep an Eye Out for Their Interests
The next time you read, listen or watch the news - think about your contacts. Would someone you know be interested in that story too? If so, send them a link to the article - or better yet, clip it out and mail it to them. They'll feel special knowing that you were thinking about them.

The information your share doesn't have to be business-related either. Maybe a client of yours is from Montana and you just read a story about Montana tourism. Send it to her! Or, another contact of yours loves to enter cycling races. Forward him that recent article about the Tour de France. Think they might have already read it? Who cares, send it anyway. It's the thought that counts.

Personalize Your Message
The key to sharing what you learn is to keep things personal. Sending out a personalized message to one contact will go much further than sending out an email blast to 50 people. The fact that you were thinking about that one person's personal interests will go a long way towards building a long lasting and profitable relationship.

Take Care,
Kathy
